Out of hours is provided in association with NHS 24. This ensures cover for emergencies out-with normal surgery hours. During these times, please telephone NHS 24 initially (Tel: 111) where you will be able to speak to a nurse advisor who will either give you advice or ask you to attend the centre (based in OPD 2 at St John’s Hospital in Livingston).

The NHS 24 website is www.nhs24.com. If they feel it necessary they will make a house call. The details of these consultations are e-mailed to your own GP by 08:00 the next day.

Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
